Study Trip to Eastbourne/England
Day 1
On June 16th 2024, 42 students and three teachers took off to England. We met at 10.30 pm
at the school’s parking lot and left Lorsch at 11 pm by bus. After a night ride we arrived at
Dunkerque, France in the morning where we took the ferry to Dover. On the ferry we
enjoyed a delicious traditional English breakfast and after a two hour journey we arrived in
England and the travel went on to Hasting, a seaside town in East Sussex. There, the
students had the opportunity to explore the town for themselves. At 5.30 pm the host
families picked up the students in Eastbourne and during dinner they had a chance to get to
know each other. Everybody was very tired, but also very satisfied and happy.
Day 2
Day 2 started with an orientation rallye in Eastbourne during which the students interviewed
local people to answer the quiz. Afterwards, we did a bus tour through Eastbourne and we
learned a lot about going to school in England and Eastbourne’s important buildings like the
town hall or the art gallery. After the theoretical input our coach drove us to Beachy Head
and we hiked along the coast and back to the pier. There, we had cream tea: black tea with
milk, scones, clotted cream, and jam. Before heading back to the host families, the students
had the opportunity to spend some time on their own in Eastbourne.
Day 3:
Day 3 – off to London! We went to London by bus and took a boat from Greenwich to
Westminster. During the boat ride on the river Themse the group got to know London from a
different perspective. After the arrival at Westminster we did a sightseeing tour: London
Eye, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, House of Guards, red busses, black
taxis. After that the students strolled through London, had fish and chips, or watched artists
at Covent Garden. Covent Garden was the meeting point before we took a boat back to our
coach. The long and exciting day ended at 21.30 pm back in Eastbourne. Everybody was
enthusiastic and overwhelmed at the same time.
Day 4:
Our last sightseeing day in England took place in Brighton. After arriving at Brighton’s Pier
we walked through the Lanes towards the Royal Pavillon. We visited the Royal Pavillon a
seaside retreat
of King George IV. The Royal Pavillon, its atmosphere, and furnishings were very impressive.
For the rest of the day the students spent their free time in Brighton. Some students relaxed
at the beach, others had tea or bought souvenirs. Back in Eastbourne the students packed
their bags and had dinner at their host families’ homes.
Day 5:
Time to say “Goodbye Eastbourne”! Bus, ferry, bus. Coming back home with a laughing and a
crying eye we look back at a wonderful week which we will never forget.
